Nature
I often demur at nature photography—not just because Adams and others can’t be beat but because I am drawn instead to civilization. Yet sometimes a plant, animal, or vista demands to be noticed. As Andy Warhol said, “Land really is the best art.” In nature the act of paying attention is tantamount to a prayer; taking photos is the closest we can come to incorporating the richness of the environment into our ken, relating as the animals we are, and hallowing our earthly home.
